DE&I Challenges Within the LGBTQ+ Community: Inclusion, Exclusion, and the Emotional Impact of Intra-Community Bias
While conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion often focus on the challenges LGBTQ+ individuals face in broader society, less attention is paid to how inclusion and exclusion can occur within LGBTQ+ communities themselves. This webinar will explore the intersection of LGBTQ+ identity with other dimensions of identity and privilege, including race, ethnicity, age, body type, socioeconomic status, gender expression, disability, and similar factors. Drawing on clinical experience and contemporary perspectives on minority stress, belonging, and community dynamics, we will examine how implicit biases, social hierarchies, and cultural norms can influence connection, self-esteem, and mental health. Participants will be invited to reflect on how these dynamics shape individual and collective experiences and how greater awareness can foster more inclusive, compassionate, and affirming LGBTQ+ spaces.
